DESCRIPTION:Learn new exercises for your agile retrospectives\, find out how to create a safe environment\, and improve your facilitation skills in the workshop Valuable Agile Retrospectives for Teams in Amsterdam on April 17\, 2018! \nAgile Retrospectives help teams to continuously improve by reflecting at the end of each iteration to learn what is going well and what can be improved\, and to do improvement actions in the next iteration. Retrospective facilitators need to have a toolbox of retrospective exercises and the skills to design and lead valuable agile retrospectives. In the workshop Valuable Agile Retrospectives for Teams you will practice exercises for facilitating retrospectives in teams. \nA great way to learn retrospectives is through experience by doing them yourself and participating in retrospectives. In this workshop you will practice different exercises from the Retrospective Exercises Toolbox to facilitate retrospectives. You will learn the “what” and “why” of retrospectives\, the business value\, and benefits that they can bring to your team. \nWho should attend this workshop\nTwo important conditions to make retrospectives valuable are to have clear goals (why do you do retrospectives) and experienced facilitators (Scrum Masters and/or Agile Coaches). \nThis workshop is intended for: \n\nRetrospective facilitators\nAgile coaches\nScrum masters\nTeam\, product or project managers\nAnybody involved in retrospectives\n\nIn this workshop\, you will design and facilitate retrospectives that help organizations to become more agile and lean. \nRetrospective exercises\nIn this interactive workshop\, you will be doing several agile iterations where each of them uses a different kind of retrospective. SUMMARY:Retrospective Facilitators Gathering 2018
DESCRIPTION:Every year\, a group of us who are passionate about retrospective facilitation gather to share observations\, grow our skills and work out things that are puzzling us. It’s a small\, invitation-only gathering\, which provides for an opportunity for very focused and high-density learning\, not to mention a bit of fun and interaction with our peers. \nThe Retrospective Facilitators Gathering is a yearly Open Space conference by and for experienced practitioners in agile retrospectives. People from all over the world come to this gathering to share experiences and ideas and to learn from other facilitators. \nOver the years I’ve learned a lot at the RFGs that I attended. It’s great to be among peers who share their experiences. The open space format enables that relevant topics pop up\, both for group and one-to-one sessions. \nI’m co-organizing the Retrospective Facilitators Gathering (RFG) in 2018 in the Netherlands\, and attending it to learn new exercises and techniques and sharpen my facilitator and (retrospective) teaching skills. \nUpdate: One spot available for RFG 2018\, contact me if you are interested!

SUMMARY:XP Days Benelux 2017
DESCRIPTION:XP Days is a two day conference on agile software development for and by practitioners. \nI have submitted a session about the Agile Self-assessment game to XP Days Benelux 2017. \nXP Days Benelux is one of my favorite conferences. There’s an outstanding program year after year. The atmosphere is great\, attendants are eager to share their experiences and learn from each other. Attendance is limited to 150 people which makes it easy to network with people\, even for introverts. \nXP Days Benelux is the only conference that I know that allows presenters to continuously improve the details of their proposals. For instance when they develop new insights for their talks or workshop\, or based on feedback that they get from other participants and the organizers. In return they ask to help other participants improve their session. The conference uses a Perfection Game exercise for giving constructive and useful feedbac LPk.

SUMMARY:Playing the Agile Self-assessment Game at Agile Tour Lille
DESCRIPTION:For several years\, the Agile Tour has been a way for enthusiasts of Agile to spread the word about Agile practices and to share their experiences\, both good and bad\, within their local community. Agile Tour is a series of non-profit events over several cities throughout October and December. \nAgile Self-assessments\nI will play the Agile Self-assessment Game at Agile Tour Lille: \nThere isn’t a standard route to become agile\, you have to find your own way. Methods and frameworks don’t tell you how to increase your agility. The Agile Self-Assessment Game is an ‘agile map’ that inspires you with ideas and suggestions on where to go next on your agile journey. Come play the Agile Self-Assessment Game in teams to discover how agile you are and what you can do to increase your agility.

SUMMARY:Making Team Working Work at Agile by Example 2017
DESCRIPTION:Agile by Example\nAgileByExample has been organised since 2011. It all started with 125 agilists in a small Warsaw music club. Since then\, each year ABE was growing. \nThe key trademark of ABE is the “by example” theme—the conference provides case studies and experience reports of real world struggles with adopting agile methods and techniques. Beside that ABE is known for the audio/video quality (organized in cinema rooms with huge screens and superb sound systems) and top-notch organization. \nContact me for a discount to attend Agile by Example! \nMaking Team Working Work.\nPeople like working in teams. That is\, if there’s a good environment and culture where people can actually work together and feel valued. Then you can have great teams.\nCreating the right conditions and environment that enables people to work together in teams can be hard work. But it’s important\, as collaboration and teamwork are essential to make agile work to deliver value.\nThis talk will show how you can self-assess how your team is performing and provide you with ideas to improve collaboration and teamwork to increase the agility of your team.

SUMMARY:Playing the Agile Self-Assessment Game at Lean Agile Scotland 2017
DESCRIPTION:I will be playing the Agile Self-assessment Game with teams at Lean Agile Scotland in a 90 minute mini-workshop: \nBecoming agile is a journey\, and it can be a difficult one. The Agile Self-Assessment Game is there for you to see how agile you are – and smoothly and successfully travel your agile journey. \nAssuming that you know why you want to become agile (a first but crucial step)\, you start looking for ways of getting there. Questions like “what do you want to keep from your current way of working?” and “what would you like to change?” will come up at the start. The next questions that usually pop up are “how are we doing?” and “what can we do to improve?”. \nCome play the Agile Self-Assessment Game in teams to discover how agile you are – and what you can do to increase your agility. \nPlayers will receive a link to download the card game so that they can play it in their own organisations (CC BY-NC-ND 3.0 License). \nI designed this game based on my experience with coaching teams\, and my background in organisational development and assessments. \n \nAgile Self-assessment Game\nThe Agile Self-Assessment Game can be used by teams and organizations to self assess their agility. Playing the game enables teams to reflect on their own team interworking and agree upon the next steps for their agile journey. With this game they can discover how agile they are and what they can do to increase their agility to deliver more value to their customers and stakeholders. \n  \nInfoQ\nI will also be covering sessions from Lean Agile Scotland on InfoQ.com.

SUMMARY:Retrospective Facilitators Gathering 2017
DESCRIPTION:Every year\, a group of us who are passionate about retrospective facilitation gather to share observations\, grow our skills and work out things that are puzzling us. It’s a small invitation only gathering\, which provides for an opportunity for very focused and high-density learning\, not to mention a bit of fun and interaction with our peers. \nI’m joining the Retrospective Facilitators Gathering (RFG) again in 2017 to learn about new exercises and sharpen my facilitator skills. \nTogether with Luis Gonçalves I wrote the book Getting Value out of Agile Retrospectives. I will share experiences from the exercises described in the book and many other retrospective exercises and practices for getting actions done and helping organizations to strive towards continuous improvement.
