SUMMARY:Meetup: Oefeningen voor waardevolle agile retrospectives

SUMMARY:Retrospective Facilitators Gathering 2016
DESCRIPTION:Every year\, a group of us who are passionate about retrospective facilitation gather to share observations\, grow our skills and work out things that are puzzling us. It’s a small invitation only gathering\, which provides for an opportunity for very focused and high-density learning\, not to mention a bit of fun and interaction with our peers. \nI’m joining the Retrospective Facilitators Gathering (RFG) again in 2016 to learn about new exercises and sharpen my facilitator skills. \nTogether with Luis Gonçalves I wrote the book Getting Value out of Agile Retrospectives. I will share experiences from the exercises described in the book and many other retrospective exercises and practices for getting actions done and helping organizations to strive towards continuous improvement.

SUMMARY:Workshop Increasing Organizational Agility with Retrospectives at AgileEE (Kiev)
DESCRIPTION:In this workshop you will learn how to scale agile retrospectives\, doing them with multiple teams from a project\, product or organization\, practice facilitation skills with different retrospective exercises\, and learn how you can introduce and improve retrospectives. You will also learn to do agile self-assessments and readiness checks and to design and facilitate retrospectives that help organizations to increase their agility. \nAdopting agile often doesn’t go as smoothly as expected in an organization. Becoming agile is a learning process which requires that you reflect regularly and adopt your way of working. Retrospective facilitators need to have a toolbox of retrospective exercises and the skills to design and lead valuable agile retrospectives. The workshop Increasing Organizational Agility with Retrospectives provides solutions for reflection and improvement across projects and organizations\, and explores how retrospectives can be used for successful agile adoption at all levels in the organization to increase agility. \nAgile retrospectives are mostly known as a technique for a team to reflect and learn at the end of each iteration (see the workshop Valuable Agile Retrospectives for Teams). This workshop build on this and takes retrospectives to the organizational level. You will learn how to scale agile retrospectives\, doing them with multiple teams from a project\, product or organization. Explore ways how retrospectives can be used to share learnings and align the way of working in the whole organization. \nThe best way to learn retrospectives is through experience\, by doing them yourself and participating in retrospectives. In this workshop you will practice facilitation skills with different retrospective exercises from the Retrospective Exercises Toolbox. You will learn how you can introduce and improving retrospectives in your organization. You will also learn to do agile self-assessments and readiness checks and to design and facilitate retrospectives that help organizations to increase their agility and become more agile and lean. \nWhat will you get out of the workshop Increasing Organizational Agility with Retrospectives \n\nHow to scale retrospectives in the organization over multiple teams\nUnderstanding how retrospectives can be used to do continuous improvement and improve organizational agility\nEstablishing pre-requirements for effective retrospectives in the organization\nAdvanced facilitation skills for doing effective and efficient retrospectives\nApproaches to improve the usage and results of retrospectives\n\nThis workshop is intended for: \n\nAgile coaches and change agents\nScrum masters and retrospective facilitators\nTeam\, product or project managers\n(senior) managers\nAnybody involved in retrospectives\n\nAttendant should have basic knowledge about agile retrospectives and some experience with facilitating retrospectives (to learn the basics you can attend the workshop Valuable Agile Retrospectives for Teams which is given on April 11). \nThis workshop is organised in collaboration with Scrumguides.

SUMMARY:Agile Eastern Europe 2016 Conference in Kiev
DESCRIPTION:I´m giving a talk about “The Road to Agility” at the Agile Eastern Europe 2016 conference\, the annual\, largest and most well-known Agile conference in Eastern Europe. \nAdopting agile often doesn’t go as smoothly as expected in an organization. The road to agility can be hard to travel: You can’t plan your journey up front and there will be surprises along the way. Becoming agile is a learning process which requires that you reflect regularly and adopt your way of working\, finding better ways to travel. \nBen Linders will explore what teams\, agile coaches\, Scrum masters\, and managers can do to be prepared for a journey to agility\, what to pack and how to decide which road to follow along the way. This talk will help you to successfully deploy ideas and practices that you’ve learned at the conference. \n \nIn collaborating with the Agile Eastern Europe conference and Scrumguides I’m also giving two workshops in Kiev: Valuable Agile Retrospectives for Teams on April 11 and Increasing Organizational Agility with Retrospectives on April 12. Where the first workshop aims to help agile teams to find ways to learn and improve continuously\, the second workshop supports to scale this capability to projects and to the whole organization to increase agility. There’s a discount if you attend both workshops.

SUMMARY:Nuggets for your Continuous Improvement Journey at Agilia Conference
DESCRIPTION:Agilia Conference is Central European conference about agile methods. Narrow focus on selected topics and private exclusive content makes this event unique. \nI will give a workshop on Valuable Agile Retrospectives and a talk on Nuggets for your Continuous Improvement Journey at the Agilia 2016 conference. For more info\, see Ben Linders’ contributions to Agilia 2016. \nNuggets for your Continuous Improvement Journey \nMy view on agile innovation is a view of continuous improvement. To increase agility teams should deploy those practices they consider to be most suitable to serve the needs of their stakeholders and customers. In stead of adopting completely new ways of working\, improvement in teams should start from where they are now. Small but firm improvement steps in stead of revolutions which help teams to improving their processes and way of working  in a sustainable way. \nThis presentation will explore teams that took control of their agile journey\, and teams that didn’t (and why they didn’t manage to do it). I will share experiences of how teams assessed how agile they are\, and how they used retrospectives to reflect and decide upon actions to do things differently from now on\, and how they executed those actions. This talk provides you with “nuggets”: practices\, experiences\, experiments and ideas that are based on doing improvement in software development organizations for more that 20 years. \nDuring the presentation there will be room to discuss your “nuggets”\, the things you tried which worked or didn’t work. Together we will dive into the success factors for making improvement work.

SUMMARY:Workshop Increasing Organizational Agility with Retrospectives in Melbourne\, Australia
\nWhat will you get out of the workshop Valuable Agile Retrospectives \n\nHow to scale retrospectives in the organization over multiple teams\nUnderstanding how retrospectives can be used to do continuous improvement and improve organizational agility\nEstablishing pre-requirements for effective retrospectives in the organization\nAdvanced facilitation skills for doing effective and efficient retrospectives\nApproaches to improve the usage and results of retrospectives\n\nThis workshop is intended for: \n\nAgile coaches and change agents\nScrum masters and retrospective facilitators\nTeam\, product or project managers\n(senior) managers\nAnybody involved in retrospectives\n\nAttendant should have basic knowledge about agile retrospectives and some experience with facilitating retrospectives (to learn the basics you can attend the workshop Valuable Agile Retrospectives for Teams which is given on February 18). \nAttendant of this workshop will receive a free copy of the ebook Getting Value out of Agile Retrospectives in English or a copy of a translated edition. \nA discount is available if you combine this workshop with the workshop Valuable Agile Retrospectives for Teams which is given on February 18. \nThis workshop is organized in collaboration with Elabor8. SUMMARY:Keynote on The Need for Continuous Improvement in Agile at 1stConf
DESCRIPTION:I will give a keynote about The Need for Continuous Improvement in Agile at 1stConf on February 15  in Melbourne\, Australia: \nFor decades people have looked for the best way to develop software. Multiple methods and frameworks have been explored to guide organizations on how to develop software. Although we have\, as a whole improved\, organizations can still struggle. Delivering working software still seems to be hard. \nMany organizations that have had success with agile\, but there are also agile transformations that have not produced the  expected results. Better software development is not about implementing the the best framework or method throughout the organization. \nAgile takes a different approach by stating “We are uncovering better ways of developing software by doing it and helping others do it”. What matters is that people\, teams and organizations adopt an agile mindset and learn how to deploy suitable practices effectively so that they can adapt to the situation at hand. \nAgile isn’t a silver bullet\, and it’s not a one size fits all approach. Continuous improvement is what makes it work\, it’s at the heart of agile. Ben will show why continuous improvement matters in agile and what you can do to help your teams and organization to be more agile. \nThis is a one day conference\, aimed at people starting out with agile. The event is being run by practitioners from the Melbourne community. 2016 is the second year that this event will be held. \nJob titles of people who should come may include but is not limited to: CIOs\, CTOs\, Directors\, Developers\, Product Managers\, Business Analysts\, Designers\, UX Designers\, Sales\, Human Resources\, Marketing\, Legal\, Testers\, Project Managers. \nThe conference features two keynote speakers: \nWe will be hearing from the world renowned agile thinker\, Dr Alistair Cockburn. He has recently developed a philosophy that he calls The Heart of Agile. \nWe are also fortunate to have Ben Linders visit Australia for the first time. He is an expert in retrospectives and an author of a book on the same topic. \nI’m also running a mini-workshop at 1stConf\, the Agile & Lean Impediment Game. This game is from my workshop Getting More out of Agile and Lean that will be run in Melbourne during my visit. Actually I’m giving three workshops in Melbourne in February: \n\nWorkshop Getting more out of Agile and Lean on February 16\nWorkshop Valuable Agile Retrospectives (beginners) on February 18\nWorkshop Valuable Agile Retrospectives (advanced) on February 19\n\nYour can register yourself for the 1stConf  and sign up for the workshops on eventbrite. \n

SUMMARY:Workshop Make Your Agile Retrospectives More Valuable at Agile Practitioners Conference
DESCRIPTION:The Agile Practitioners conference is the agile conference for the agile community by the agile community. Conference theme for 2016 is Hands-on agility. \nI will give the workshop Make Your Agile Retrospectives More Valuable: \nThe agile manifesto proposes that a “team reflects on how to become more effective”. Agile retrospectives can be used to inspect and adapt the way of working. They help teams to address impediments and optimize their flow\, by deploying agile and lean  practices in an effective way. The retrospective facilitator (often the scrum master) should have a toolbox of retrospective exercises\, and be able to pick the most effective ones. Retrospectives are a great way for teams to improve their way of working\, to become more agile and lean. Getting actions out of a retrospective that are doable\, and getting them done helps teams to learn and improve continuously. \nWhat can attendees take away from this workshop: \n\nLearn about the why and how of Agile Retrospectives\nExperience difference retrospective exercises\nTips and tricks to address blockers and improve flow with retrospectives\nSee the benefits of using effective exercises in retrospectives\n\nIn this workshop I will explain the “what” and “why” of retrospectives and the business value and benefits that they can bring. Attendance will practice one or more retrospective exercises and learn how to facilitate retrospectives. I will also give advice for introducing and improving retrospectives. The workshop is based on the successful book Getting Value out of Agile Retrospectives. \nTicket sales has started\, click here to register
