Book: Reinventing Organizations

Reading Time: 0 minute
Book Cover: Book: Reinventing Organizations

The way we manage organizations seems increasingly out of date. Survey after survey shows that a majority of employees feel disengaged from their companies. The epidemic of organizational disillusionment goes way beyond Corporate America-teachers, doctors, and nurses are leaving their professions in record numbers because the way we run schools and hospitals kills their vocation. Government agencies and nonprofits have a noble purpose, but working for these entities often feels soulless and lifeless just the same. All these organizations suffer from power games played at the top and powerlessness at lower levels, from infighting and bureaucracy, from endless meetings and a seemingly never-ending succession of change and cost-cutting programs.

Deep inside, we long for soulful workplaces, for authenticity, community, passion, and purpose. The solution, according to many progressive scholars, lies with more enlightened management. But reality shows that this is not enough. In most cases, the system beats the individual-when managers or leaders go through an inner transformation, they end up leaving their organizations because they no longer feel like putting up with a place that is inhospitable to the deeper longings of their soul.

We need more enlightened leaders, but we need something more: enlightened organizational structures and practices. But is there even such a thing? Can we conceive of enlightened organizations?

In this groundbreaking book, the author shows that every time humanity has shifted to a new stage of consciousness in the past, it has invented a whole new way to structure and run organizations, each time bringing extraordinary breakthroughs in collaboration. A new shift in consciousness is currently underway. Could it help us invent a radically more soulful and purposeful way to run our businesses and nonprofits, schools and hospitals?

The pioneering organizations researched for this book have already "cracked the code." Their founders have fundamentally questioned every aspect of management and have come up with entirely new organizational methods. Even though they operate in very different industries and geographies and did not know of each other's experiments, the structures and practices they have developed are remarkably similar. It's hard not to get excited about this finding: a new organizational model seems to be emerging, and it promises a soulful revolution in the workplace.

"Reinventing Organizations" describes in practical detail how organizations large and small can operate in this new paradigm. Leaders, founders, coaches, and consultants will find this work a joyful handbook, full of insights, examples, and inspiring stories.

Book: The Antifragility Edge

Antifragility in Practice

Book Cover: Book: The Antifragility Edge

Today, business organizations experience unprecedented levels of disruption (turbulence) and can only expect the unexpected. While they must perform in a VUCA world (one characterized by volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity), their ability to OODA (observe, orient, decide, and act) is no longer enough to survive and thrive amid disorder. In this new chaotic reality, while agility is essential for adapting and surviving, antifragility is essential for evolving and thriving. Business organizations must embrace this new reality and emerge stronger.

In The Antifragility Edge: Antifragility in Practice, Sinan Si Alhir demystifies antifragility, explores how antifragility may be operationalized or put into practice by business organizations (at the individual, collective, and enterprise levels), and offers an actionable roadmap for how business organizations can achieve greater antifragility.

Boek: Dienend leiderschap: lange termijn vertrouwen is beter dan korte termijn succes

Reading Time: 0 minute

Book: Debugging Teams: Better Productivity through Collaboration

Reading Time: 0 minute
Book Cover: Book: Debugging Teams: Better Productivity through Collaboration

In the course of their 20+-year engineering careers, authors Brian Fitzpatrick and Ben Collins-Sussman have picked up a treasure trove of wisdom and anecdotes about how successful teams work together. Their conclusion? Even among people who have spent decades learning the technical side of their jobs, most haven’t really focused on the human component. Learning to collaborate is just as important to success. If you invest in the "soft skills" of your job, you can have a much greater impact for the same amount of effort.

The authors share their insights on how to lead a team effectively, navigate an organization, and build a healthy relationship with the users of your software. This is valuable information from two respected software engineers whose popular series of talks—including "Working with Poisonous People"—has attracted hundreds of thousands of followers.

Book: Make Them Grow: Give Feedback People Apply

Reading Time: 0 minute
Book Cover: Book: Make Them Grow: Give Feedback People Apply

Remember the time, when you were a kid, how you felt playing and building a construction out of Lego bricks? Your parents looked at you and said really nice work. You wanted to impress them even more, so you started to build something better to get their appreciation again. This led you to superior results in bricks building. Or perhaps it was painting in your case, or cooking, or another activity at which you were immersed as a child. Every time somebody paid attention to what you did and gave you feedback, you wanted to do it better. This mechanism works exactly the same in adult life when we carry out our activities. Quick feedback is essential for people to grow, excel, and in the end, to surprise others with outstanding results.

Learn in minutes how to give an effective feedback to people around you and use this knowledge for a lifetime as a leader, a friend or a parent.

Boek: Agile Werkt

Reading Time: 0 minute
Book Cover: Boek: Agile Werkt

Agile werkt echt!

Boek: Scrum voor Managers

Reading Time: 0 minute

Reviews:Ben Linders on Ben Linders - Sharing my Experience wrote:
