A good facilitator support teams in doing analysis, reflection and deciding on the actions. An independent facilitator doesn't not have an own agenda of improvements, but is focused on helping teams decide on those actions that are best for the team.
I gave two well received talks at Agile Tour Beirut, one about how to become a better Scrum master and one on doing valuable agile retrospectives to continuously increase your agility. The slides of these talks can be downloaded from my presentations page.

Servant leadership alone is not enough, Scrum masters need to know a variety of leadership styles to support agile teams and help them to deliver value.
